Challenges Addressed:

1. Inaccessible villages.

2. Awareness among tribal people about the project.

3. Damage to mango plants due to heavy frost.

4. Poor condition of the project area road.

5. High migration rate among farmers due to lack of employment.


Solutions Implemented:

1. Conducted various meetings to raise awareness among tribal people about the wadi project.

2. Protected mango plants from frost damage by covering them with gunny bags.

3. After project completion, the district administration focused on developing roads in the project area.

4. Provided continuous benefits to farmers from the wadi, leading to reduced migration rates.


Impact:

- Wadis Promoted: 500 wadis

- Area Promoted: 500 acres

- Tribal Farmers Benefitted: 500

- Women Farmer Beneficiaries: 10

- Increase in Income of Tribal Families: ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 per annum per family

- Trees Planted: 27,500 (Mango-12,500, Pear-15,000)

- Employment Generated: Recurring - 500 families, Non-recurring - 0

- Families Stopped Migration: 490 to 495

- Ground-Level Institutions:

- SHGs/JLGs Promoted: 42

- SHGs/JLGs Credit Linked: 36

- Increase in Income of SHG/JLG Members: ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per annum (approx)

- Enterprise Activities Taken Up by SHG/JLG: 1. Jeeraphool Rice Processing, 2. Group Chilli Farming, 3. Vermi Composting, etc.


Additional Impact:

1. Promotion of chilli cultivation as an intercrop, leading to additional income of ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 per year for 350 to 380 farmers.

2. Promotion of various crops and practices such as spice cultivation, strawberry cultivation, buckwheat cultivation, millet (Kodo-Kutki), oilseed (Ramtil, Mustard), and scientific vegetable cultivation.

3. Introduction of agricultural practices like the use of good seeds, drip irrigation, nutrient management, organic manure, SRI method in paddy, improved vegetable cultivation methods, and honey bee pollination.

4. Implementation of health-related programs and awareness sessions on health, sanitation, and hygiene, along with the promotion of kitchen gardens for better nutrition.


This project has not only addressed the challenges faced by tribal communities but has also significantly improved their livelihoods and overall well-being, leading to sustainable development in the region.
