Women Empowerment
READS is dedicated to empowering women in Northern Chhattisgarh through various initiatives. By forming Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and providing training and support, READS enables women to actively participate in economic activities. These efforts uplift women socially and economically, fostering gender equality and empowering them to contribute effectively to their families and communities.
WHAT WE DO
Women empowerment lies at the core of READS' mission in Northern Chhattisgarh. By organizing Self-Help Groups (SHGs), fostering solidarity, and integrating women into income-generating activities, READS aims to uplift and empower women economically and socially. Through various initiatives, READS has facilitated the formation of over 500 SHGs in Jashpur district alone, benefiting approximately more than 5500 women.

The fundamental objective of these SHGs is multifaceted. They serve as platforms for collective savings, enabling women to pool their resources and build financial resilience. Moreover, SHGs facilitate access to formal banking services, empowering women to avail loans for various purposes based on their needs and aspirations. This financial inclusion aspect not only enhances their economic independence but also fosters a sense of agency and decision-making power.

Additionally, READS endeavors to link the products crafted by these women to the market, ensuring fair prices and sustainable income generation. Through skill-building workshops and training sessions, women are equipped with the necessary knowledge and expertise to produce quality goods. These products, ranging from handicrafts to agricultural produce, not only contribute to the economic well-being of the women but also promote local entrepreneurship and craftsmanship.

In the context of Jashpur district, where traditional gender roles often confine women to domestic spheres, the emergence of SHGs has brought about a paradigm shift. Women are no longer just passive participants but active contributors to their households and communities. The newfound financial independence empowers them to make decisions regarding their own lives, education, healthcare, and the future of their families.

Furthermore, the collective nature of SHGs fosters a sense of sisterhood and solidarity among women. Beyond economic benefits, these groups serve as platforms for social support, knowledge exchange, and mutual empowerment. Women find strength and encouragement in each other's stories and experiences, breaking the barriers of isolation and silence that often characterize marginalized communities.

Through its women empowerment initiatives, READS not only addresses economic disparities but also tackles deeply entrenched social norms and gender inequalities. By promoting women's agency, leadership, and participation in decision-making processes, READS contributes to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
In essence, READS' efforts in women empowerment encompass more than just economic upliftment; they are about fostering a culture of dignity, equality, and self-determination among women in Northern Chhattisgarh. By investing in women's potential and harnessing their collective strength, READS paves the way for sustainable development and social transformation in the region.
