Exposure Visit for Farmers of Maina WDF under NABARD Watershed Programme by READS

On 7th March 2025, a significant exposure visit was organized by READS (Rural Education and Development Society) under the NABARD-funded Watershed Development Programme for the farmers of Maina Watershed Development Fund (WDF). The visit was conducted at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dumarbahar, located in Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh. This initiative aimed to enhance the agricultural knowledge and practical understanding of the farmers through direct interaction with agricultural scientists and hands-on demonstrations.

The exposure visit served as an eye-opener for the farmers, many of whom are associated with rain-fed and traditional farming practices. During the visit, the participating farmers were introduced to advanced farming techniques, climate-resilient agriculture practices, integrated nutrient management, soil health cards, organic farming, improved seed varieties, and methods of water conservation. The resource persons at KVK explained the importance of crop diversification and demonstrated techniques related to horticulture, vermicomposting, and livestock integration.

This initiative under the NABARD Watershed Programme has been designed to empower farmers by giving them opportunities to learn beyond their immediate environment. The exposure visit not only provided them with theoretical insights but also offered a platform to witness scientific innovations being applied in the field. The farmers expressed their enthusiasm and shared how the visit helped them gain new ideas to implement in their own farming systems.

READS, through such initiatives, continues to work towards capacity building, sustainable livelihood promotion, and environmental sustainability in rural areas. The collaboration with NABARD and KVK in this effort is a step forward in creating a self-reliant and informed farming community in the Jashpur region.
