Shree Lal Ram - A Journey from Coal Mines to Prosperity

Shree Lal Ram, a resident of Bagda village in Pratappur, Surajpur district, had been commuting 8 kilometers to work in the coal mines of Bansipur due to the lack of opportunities in his village. The year 2020 brought a ray of hope as NABARD's WADI development program reached their village. Motivated by the project workers, Shree Lal Ram planted 40 mango, 20 guava, and 10 apple berry saplings on his barren land. After the plantation, the community received a borewell as part of water resource development. In 2021, Shree Lal Ram earned Rs. 12,500 from peanuts, followed by a profit of Rs. 52,000 from peanut, chili, and parwal cultivation in 2022. The success gradually transformed Shree Lal Ram's life, allowing him to pay off a loan of Rs. 35,000 during the pandemic, purchase a motorcycle, and deposit the remaining amount in his bank account. His improved financial status inspires other farmers in the community. In 2023, he earned Rs. 54,000 from torai and parwal cultivation, further enhancing his family's prosperity. Shree Lal Ram expresses heartfelt gratitude to NABARD and the NGO REEDS for their transformative program.

Ram Singh - Empowered Through Horticulture

Ram Singh, residing in Bharda village of Pratappur block, Surajpur district, had limited formal education due to lack of awareness. Motivated by the initiative, Ram Singh planted 40 mango, 20 guava, and 10 apple berry saplings on his one-acre land. With guidance from the project, he earned Rs. 17,200 from peanut cultivation in 2021 and Rs. 32,000 from urad and chili farming in 2022. He invested the profits in his children's education and began construction of a house. His enthusiasm for farming grew, and in 2023, he earned Rs. 44,500 from drip-irrigated chili cultivation. Ram Singh expresses gratitude to NABARD and REEDS for their support, acknowledging the program's role in his family's well-being.
