READS, with support from NAB FOUNDATION, conducted a health awareness camp in Chhatori Village, educating over 70 villagers on monsoon health issues and distributing vegetable seeds for nutritional support.
On September 13, 2024, READS (Rural Education and Development Society) organized a Health Awareness Program in Chhatori Village, located in the Manora Block of Jashpur District. The primary aim of this initiative was to educate villagers about the health risks posed during the rainy season and provide them with necessary preventive measures. With over 70 participants, including villagers and school students, the program sought to raise awareness about the health problems commonly associated with monsoons, such as waterborne diseases, vector-borne infections, and general hygiene practices.
The program began with a health awareness session led by medical experts and community health workers. They provided valuable insights into preventing diseases such as diarrhea, malaria, and dengue, which tend to increase during and after the rainy season. Participants were taught simple hygiene practices, including safe drinking water methods, mosquito prevention techniques, and personal cleanliness habits, which are crucial in preventing the spread of infections during the monsoon.
In addition to the awareness session, a health check-up camp was conducted. The attendees underwent basic health screenings, including blood pressure checks and general medical evaluations. For those in need, essential medicines were distributed, including antibiotics, antipyretics, and vitamins, to help alleviate minor ailments and prevent common monsoon-related illnesses.
As part of the broader health and nutrition initiative, READS also distributed vegetable seeds to the villagers, with support from NAB FOUNDATION Mumbai. The seeds, which included varieties such as spinach, tomatoes, and carrots, were given to the beneficiaries to promote better nutrition within their households. These vegetables are known for their high nutritional content and can be easily grown in home gardens, ensuring a steady supply of essential vitamins and minerals.
This dual approach of health awareness and nutritional support is expected to have a lasting impact on the villagers. By promoting healthy practices during the rainy season and encouraging the cultivation of nutritious vegetables, the initiative aims to improve overall health outcomes in the community.
The NAB FOUNDATION Mumbai provided critical support for the program. Their partnership enabled the successful distribution of medicines and vegetable seeds, helping to address both immediate health concerns and long-term nutritional needs. This collaboration between READS and NABFOUNDATION reflects a shared commitment to empowering rural communities through education, healthcare, and sustainable development practices.
The villagers of Chhatori expressed their gratitude for the initiative, noting that such programs not only improve their health awareness but also equip them with practical tools to enhance their well-being. By addressing both health and nutrition in one integrated program, READS and NABFOUNDATION have taken a significant step toward building a healthier, more resilient community in Chhatori Village.
In conclusion, this health awareness program, coupled with nutritional support, is a prime example of how community-driven initiatives can make a tangible difference in the lives of rural populations. Through continued efforts, the partnership between READS and NAB FOUNDATION is expected to further strengthen community health and contribute to sustainable development in the region.
