Farmers from Maharashtra's Palghar District Learn Modern Farming Techniques in Jashpur

In a bid to enhance agricultural practices and diversify their crop cultivation, tribal farmers from Palghar district in Maharashtra visited Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh. Organized by the Farmers Producer Company (FPC), the farmers embarked on a learning journey to study the cultivation of guava, pear, strawberry, chili, and tomato, along with tea cultivation.


During their visit, the farmers were exposed to various farming techniques and practices. They first explored tea cultivation, learning from local farmers about the nuances of tea farming. Subsequently, under the NABARD-sponsored program, they observed guava and pear orchards in the village of Karadana. Moving forward, in the village of Kopa, they gained insights into strawberry cultivation and the planting of pear saplings.

Furthermore, the farmers interacted with members of the Harit Kranti FPO to understand the functioning of the FPO and its role in supporting agricultural initiatives. They also studied the cultivation of chili and tomato, witnessing firsthand the cultivation methods employed by local farmers.


Inspired by the initiatives undertaken in Jashpur, the visiting farmers expressed their intent to replicate similar farming practices in their own region. They recognized the potential of diversifying their agricultural activities to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the agricultural development of their communities.


The exchange of knowledge and experiences between tribal farmers from Maharashtra and their counterparts in Jashpur signifies a collaborative effort towards sustainable agriculture and rural development. Through such initiatives, farmers are empowered to adopt modern techniques and improve productivity, thereby fostering agricultural growth in their respective regions.
